A year ago last May I came to Southern California...
A year ago last May I came to Southern California from the earthquake district. I personally knew no one, and with the exception of the dear, kind Scientist with whom I roomed, it did not seem easy to know any one. I was undergoing a (to me) novel experience, dearth of funds. I had been in Science a year, and had given up my vocation as teacher of physical culture, and the time had come for me to prove God as the source of my supply, so I turned away from the suggestion to send to a dear and willing brother for money. I had been in Los Angeles several weeks when one day, feeling to an unusual degree the sense of limitation as well as loneliness, I wandered out to a beautiful little park, and sitting on the bank of the lake, I turned my thought to God and His goodness. Then and there came to me a greater realization than I had yet known of the all-sufficiency of the Divine presence. A little later Love brought me to Pasadena, and during the year which has elapsed since then, I have been blessed with the sweetest friendships, the most loving encouragement and help have been given me, and the wonderful protection of divine Love has been again and again proven. My heart overflows in gratitude to God for these proofs of His omnipotent care, of His promises fulfilled. As to our brave, steadfast, and loving Mrs. Eddy! What do we not owe to her? My love and gratitude to her for her faithfulness to the God-inspired message which she has given the world must be measured by my loyalty to the great Cause of Christian Science. How much I could say of its regenerative power, which has made a new woman of me and given me the desire to overcome all that is unlike God. Only the giver of "every good gift and every perfect gift" could have given us Christian Science.
Julia E. Hunter, Pasadena, Cal.
