Of the thousands who have been healed of disease, and...
Of the thousands who have been healed of disease, and who are being healed of sin, I am one. It is a privilege to bear witness to the power of God as revealed by Christian Science and applied to the healing of the individual. As a child I had much trouble with my eyes, and used various unpleasant material remedies. The doctors diagnosed the case and predicted the use of glasses for me in the future. In my later school days, however, I was enabled to continue my college work by receiving Christian Science treatment. In a very short time my eyes were healed, and have been well and strong ever since. This occurred a number of years ago.
I was supposed to have inherited stomach trouble, and was brought up on a very plain diet. As the years passed I suffered more from this malady, so that at times I could nothing that did not cause me pain; but again Christian Science came to the rescue, and within a year I was healed by reading the Christian Science text-book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and also receiving treatment. My general health has also improved and I have grown stronger. Several times colds have been overcome; teeth have been extracted without pain; pain has been quickly destroyed; various minor ills have been relieved and cured at once, and all by the application of Christian Science
Beyond all these was the overcoming of a greater affliction than physical ills, namely, grief, melancholy, and at times almost despair. The teachings of a false theology had cast a gloom over my life, and I longed for the joy and sunshine which I have since found in Christian Science. Being of an impressionable nature I was troubled and depressed by some dark and depressing conditions in my environment. Several years ago my home was broken up under very sad circumstances, and I felt lonely and homesick. To this were added several other heavy blows, and grief seemed to predominate. I felt that I had nothing to live for, but I had seen the truth of Christian Science and had begun applying it to my daily life. I studied the Christian Science text-book a great deal, as well as other writings of Mrs. Eddy, together with the Bible. What I read seemed very real and true, and very beautiful. I learned of God's love for all His children, and came to feel His presence more and more. I read in Science and Health, "Sorrow is not the master of joy" (p. 304); and, "There is no cause for grief (p. 386). I accepted this truth, and saw that what seemed to cause grief was unreal. I was comforted, strengthened, and more and more did I find joy in God. At length, after growth in spiritual understanding, the balance changed to the side of joy and I was healed. With one exception, circumstances had not changed in any marked degree, but I was happy instead of sad. I learned the truth of another statement in our wonderful text-book: "Happiness is spiritual, born of Truth and Love" (Science and Health, p. 57). I then felt that happiness came directly from God, and was not caused by any material conditions. No longer homesick or lonely, having no more sense of loss, separation, or discord, my sorrow was turned into joy, according to Christ's promise. The gradual process of this healing is well described in a verse of the 91st Psalm: "He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him." First, I sought God and found the answer of His presence, His love and wisdom. Then I was delivered, healed. Surely one is honored of God who has had such an experience.
