That Christian Science heals all manner of disease is a generally conceded fact, and this without any alliance with material means and methods. No one knows better than a Christian Scientist that a formula recited has no healing animus, and Christian Science disallows its use. There is but one science of numbers, but one science of sound, and there can be but one science of healing, and, if it is spiritual, it cannot co-operate with material medicine.
The Christian Scientist's prayer which heals the sick is based upon "the scientific statement of being" regarding God, man, and the universe, an explanation of which the text-book of Christian Science sets forth. (Science and Health, p. 468.) This truth of being conversely denies the counterfeit—the false sense of things. This process of transformation has no tendency toward annihilation. All educational advancement involves a continual denial. The human mind is not a blank, even in an untutored state, but is filled with an erroneous sense of things which scientific progression removes; as, for instance, the false sense of music is denied by the science of music, and is dispelled through the cultivation of thought that development brings.
