About five years ago I began attending the Christian Science...

About five years ago I began attending the Christian Science meetings in our city. I had previously been healed by Christian Science, and through this treatment I had found the truth. I had no idea but what I could take it into the church of which I was a member, but to my great disappointment I found I was growing dissatisfied with my church, which I had always loved. I had felt that it came nearer the truth than any other, but now all was changed, and I must set myself about finding, if possible, the cause of my restlessness.

I studied the Bible, and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and found that while I had a theoretical knowledge of God and of the brotherhood of man, I lacked the understanding of God as good and of man as an idea of God. So, after receiving satisfactory proof of the truth of Christian Science, I united with First Church of Christ, Scientist, in this town. My healing was accomplished through absent treatment. It was not a quick healing, but it was effectual, being achieved in about three months. Besides the ailment for which I was chiefly treated, I had other serious maladies, including eye trouble, having worn glasses for three years. All of these ailments have one by one disappeared, and besides the physical help, the spiritual uplifting has been beyond expression. I have found God ever ready to answer my prayer, when I have been willing to bring myself into harmony with Him. I find that only by constant demonstration of the saving truths of Christian Science, do we rise in consciousness to their full meaning and helpfulness. What blessed assurance lies in the thought that man is God's child; that He loves us and cares for us. It is the understanding of this which has aroused in me a desire for something more tangible and practical than the material and temporal in which I believed in the past.

Thus each step in Christian Science becomes like a stitch set in a beautiful garment, that each one of us is preparing for himself; and at last the old mantle of materiality will gradually be loosed from our shoulders, and we shall find ourselves "clothed upon" with the spiritual. Thus, by keeping our thoughts constantly upon Truth and Love, we shall attain, here and now, that which in the past seemed unattainable.
