About three years ago, Christian Science was brought to my notice. My wife and myself were invited to attend the church. We went, and I liked it. I visited the church on several occasions, but could not get interested enough to warrant my taking the matter up more seriously. I finally dropped it altogether, with the exception of the remembrance I had of the beautiful services. The seed had been sown just the same, and it was to spring up at some later day.

December, 1904, I was troubled with a carbuncle that caused me severe suffering. The pain was terrible, still I performed my duties at the office, but under difficulties. My brother, who was interested in Christian Science, advised me to go to a practitioner, but I declined in a very determined way, telling him that I was going to my doctor in the afternoon. I went, and after waiting about two and a half hours in constant pain, he arrived. Having been my friend for many years, he would naturally try his utmost to relieve me, but he said I must go home for three or four days. I told him it would be impossible for me to leave the office, and asked him to do something to relieve me. He prescribed a plaster, which I applied, but the suffering from that application cannot be described. After lying in bed fifteen minutes, the thought of Christian Science came to me, and my brother's words all came back. I called my wife, asked her opinion of Science, and she heartily approved of my taking treatment, telling me to go at once and that she would go with me.

We finally reached a practitioner, who gave me treatment, assuring me that before I reached home that evening, the pain would be gone. I doubted this, but twenty minutes after we had left his house the pain had disappeared. Next day I had another treatment, and two days after the carbuncle had entirely disappeared.
