Soon after I commenced the study of Science and Health...
Soon after I commenced the study of Science and Health I was taken with rheumatism so badly that at times I could not walk across the floor without great pain, and at night I could hardly turn over, the pain seemed so intense. My friends urged me to try material remedies, but I decided that Truth should be my physician. My understanding of the Principle of Christian Science was very small, and the disease did not yield readily, but I kept on denying the reality of evil and seeking to learn the perfection of God's children, and to-day I rejoice in being free from that fear which kept me in bondage.
Another proof of divine Love was the healing of a bone felon on my thumb, which was very badly swollen. One night I awoke with a sense of severe pain in my thumb. I at once began to declare the truth but seemed to get no relief, when like an angel's whisper came that beautiful declaration of Paul, "In him we live, and move, and have our being." Then there came such a sense of peace and trust that all fear left me and in a few minutes I fell asleep. When I awoke the next morning, it was to find that all pain had left me. Having had previous experience with a felon, which did not heal for about two months, I was very thankful that in this last case I was able to use my hand in about three weeks.
Not only has Christian Science been a help to me physically, but I have been made better spiritually, in the overcoming, to a great extent, of a very quick temper and also of an indifference for my fellow-beings. I am learning to love, my thought is purer, my aim higher than ever before.
