I would like to add my testimony to the harmony that comes to us through Christian Science. Recently, when it seemed that all was confusion and I could not think clearly to help myself out of suffering, I took up an old copy of the Sentinel and read a testimony which told how a woman had been taken out of the very jaws of death, as it were, being awakened from unconsciousness as the words of the 91st Psalm were heard by her. And I thought, How great is the power of God! Immediately my own sense of helplessness lessened and I was able to work mentally.
Christian Science has helped me in many difficulties. When I first came into Christian Science, and while being treated for another trouble, my hair, which was so thin I could not do it up at all, became at least twice as thick, and I had not even mentioned it to the practitioner. Since then I have been able to overcome entirely a tendency to faint, from which I suffered at the least excitement. Less than a year ago I was able to have a finger sewed up which had been severely injured,—the bone being entirely bared,—and this was done without my taking any drugs to keep me from fainting. I was calm, and the fact that my consciousness was of God and therefore indestructible, was quite clear to me, in spite of the medical opinion that I was going to faint. The fear was overcome, and the surgeon said it was the most remarkable thing she had ever witnessed. The finger, which she wished to amputate, was treated in Science, and did not become inflamed, and before long I was doing all my housework, although I had been told by the same surgeon that I would be in bed six weeks and my entire arm would be terribly swelled.
I am indeed thankful for this understanding which has helped me in so many physical difficulties, and a great deal more thankful for the happiness and peace it has brought me. There is much to be overcome yet, but I give thanks to God, who has sent this truth to us through our beloved Leader.—Mrs. Mabel Laughlin, Chicago, Ill.
