The physical healing in Christian Science results from...
Morning Graphic
The physical healing in Christian Science results from moral regeneration; sin, the foundation of disease, being removed, the body is healed. Dealing as it does with effects only, giving no heed to obvious mental causes, materia medica treatment must of necessity be tentative and relief but temporary. It goes without saying, moreover, that if Jesus had thought drugs essential to the healing art he would have used and advocated the same, and insisted upon such knowledge of their nature and operation as would have rendered their use safe and potent, if indeed we can conceive of our Lord using or advocating a remedy doubtful or unsafe. In all his healing ministry, however, including thousands of cases and all manner of diseases and afflictions, he healed by spiritual means, permanently and effectually. He always left his patient better physically, morally, and spiritually, and there was never any reaction or dangerous "after-effects." He urged such healing upon his followers also, as the direct result of living the precepts which he taught, admonishing that the healing in certain cases could be done only "by prayer and fasting." Christian Scientists are again to-day demonstrating the possibility and the practicability of such healing and the superiority of the spiritual over the material in the realm of therapeutics, conscious, however, that all men have the inalienable right to choose for themselves in the matter.
