From January, 1879, to June, 1880, I was confined to my bed with throat and lung trouble, which was pronounced incurable by two physicians; but having changed my location I was restored to partial health, although I continued to manifest an abnormal condition of the chest and had terrible headaches. Other troubles appeared and my life became a dreary expanse of suffering, either present or dreaded. I endured twenty years of this suffering in which time aid was sought from seven different physicians, all of whom in the kindest way did everything in their power, but without benefit to me. During these years my suffering grew more intense, and at times I would become unconscious, when injections of morphine would be used. I was finally told that I could not live much longer.

Christian Science was then brought to my notice, with some positive proofs of its healing power, and I bought a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. The first reading was without much understanding, but I persisted, and "let there be light" was surely verified to me, for "there was light." I beheld God as a "very present help," and was lifted out of my troubles, slowly but surely. Now, after five years of study in Christian Science, I am well; my lungs are strong and the sunken chest has rounded out; the headaches are only a memory; the uterine trouble is perfectly healed, and my voice is strong and clear. For nearly two years I have been a Second Reader in a branch church. In deep gratitude to divine Love, and to our dear Leader, I am devoting my life to the work of Christian Science, striving in "the full assurance of faith" to lessen sin and sorrow.
