The Heavens in August

Boston Transcript.

During the latter portion of the month Venus will set between seven and eight. On the 12th she will assume her maximum brilliancy, being then about thirty-nine degrees distant from the sun.

Mars is in Virgo, but will enter Libra toward the close of the month. This planet sets between nine and ten o'clock. On the 22d it will be very close to Alpha Librae, the brightest star in the constellation of that name. Jupiter is still in Aquarius and Saturn in Capricornus, the former rising between eight and nine o'clock and the latter culminating a little after nine. The four brightest of the planets — Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn—being evening stars, lend to the evening skies an especially attractive appearance.

Morality must be taught as a real science, whose principles will be demonstrated to the reason of all men, and to that of all ages. It is only in this way that it will resist all trials.—Talleyrand.
