Thirteen years last April I first heard of Christian Science,...
Thirteen years last April I first heard of Christian Science, and like a great many others I turned to it as a last resort, having exhausted the skill of three of the best physicians in northeastern Iowa. For six years I followed faithfully their instructions in order to get relief from a disease which they pronounced cancerous bunches on the lymphatic glands. These bunches extended from the back of my ears to below the armpits, my left armpit being so filled with them that all circulation was stopped, causing me to have no use of my arm, and at times my finger-nails were black.
The suffering I endured cannot be described. The first two physicians I treated with advised an operation, but the third one would not agree with them. His own words were, "I would not advise an operation. The glands would have to be removed and that would necessitate cutting under the shoulder blade; we know where we would begin, but not where we would stop. All I can offer you is my sympathy."
With these words ringing in my ears, I went to the home of a cousin whose wife was at this time in Minneapolis taking treatment. Her husband wrote her what the doctors said about my case, and she came home at once and advised me to try Christian Science. Seeing her improved condition, my husband advised me to go, but I hesitated, fearing it would interfere with my religion, but the thought of getting well and being able to raise my two children prevailed, so I went. I asked the practitioner if he thought I could be cured. He encouraged me, and after the third treatment I felt no more pain or soreness, and in three months the bunches were all gone. I was also healed of neuralgia and constipation. From that time to this I have been well and strong, and have been enabled through the understanding of this blessed truth to help others out of the darkness which I once thought was light.
