Several years ago my attention was called to Science and Health
Several years ago my attention was called to Science and Health. At first I was not especially interested, and being a member of an orthodox church I opposed it some-what, fearing it would lead me into something wrong. The next summer, while attending the Chautauqua Assembly in New York, I heard a lecture on Christian Science, and afterwards a parlor talk. I was led to take treatment for weak eyes, and after a few treatments I bought a copy of Science and Health, and by reading the book I gradually received benefit.
I had been a member of an orthodox church from the time I was sixteen, but as the years went by and I began to think for myself, some things I had taught taught did not seem consistent with the idea of a loving God, and the belief in a personal devil was always repugnant to me. These things made me feel that there was something lacking, and I longed for a more spiritual religion. As I became familiar with the teachings of Science and Health and had the benefit of class teaching, I found that which satisfied. The more I learned of Christian Science the more I realized that it presented the true plan of salvation, made the Bible plain, and reconciled what had been seeming contradictions. In many ways it brought to me higher idea of God and man, rebuked error, and showed me how to work out my own salvation, teaching me how God works with us, so that Christian Science became to me a practical Christianity.
For all this I am very grateful and wish to express my heartfelt thanks for our periodicals, which are lights in my pathway, but most of all I am truly grateful for the pure, unselfish life of our beloved Leader. The great love which she has for all mankind is a constant rebuke to all selfishness, and my constant prayer is for more love in my own life.—MRS. E. E. E., Washington, Ia.
