For many years I had been a great sufferer from dyspepsia, liver trouble, and all the ills that go with those diseases. One physician after another had been tried, but no treatment seemed to help me.
I had always read my Bible and attended church, and I was told that I ought to love God, although it was His will that we suffer, and that it was right to employ a physician. I never could see why, if sickness was sent by God for our good, we should dare to send for man to undo what He had done.
I was a student of the Bible, but did not understand its teachings. In the year 1887, I first heard of Christian Science, and after reading Science and Health for a week I was entirely healed without a treatment. I took class instruction and began the practice of Christian Science soon after. I have had many cases of instantaneous healing, and know that nearly every disease known to materia medica has been healed through Christian Science. In Science and Health, p. 243, Mrs. Eddy says, "Truth, Life, and Love are a law of annihilation to everything unlike themselves, because they declare nothing except God."
