Thoughts
It is wrong thinking that brings disease and disharmony, and it is right thinking that brings health and peace. It takes true thoughts to make a true man; it is God's thoughts reflected, that build of us His temple.
"The body improves under the same regimen which improves the thought; and if this is not made manifest, it proves that it is not Truth which is influencing us. ... The moral and spiritual facts of health, whispered into thought, produce very direct and marked effects on the body" (Science and Health, p. 370).
Further; if we would be happy we must have good thoughts. We cannot be truly happy and hate any one. Even if maligned we must love. "To be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace." If men could know that their happiness depends upon their cheerfulness, their politeness and kindness to others, and a happy and orderly way of thinking, backed by the knowledge that all joy comes from God, there would be more happy, and consequently healthy, people in the world. If every time an evil thought comes to us and we make it our companion, whether it be a form of malice, hatred, or anger, we knew that we must suffer in some way for this indulgence, either by actual sickness, or in some other way, we would all be more guarded and seek to purify our thought. "So it will ever be, till we learn that there is no discount in the law of justice, and that we must pay 'the uttermost farthing.' The measure ye mete 'shall be measured to you again,' and it will be full 'and running over'" (Science and Health, p. 5).
