Mental Might

A world of suffering nations has weighed the might of a
crown,
A thinking, free-born people has cast the conqueror down:
Yet voices, choosing a leader, grow harsh to slander his
name,
And holy hearts are broken upon the altar of Fame.

The hulls that hurled destruction lie rotting under the sea,
The hosts that harassed nations are paying tribute to Thee:
And all the work the builders have wrought for centuries
past
Has yielded, sea-wall and rampart, to wind and storm at the
last.

No more can pomp or person command invincible power;
No more can wail or warring humanly govern the hour;
For mental might, has come as light from the sky to quicken
the sod.
And we live in a universe governed by one omnipotent God.
