I feel I must say a little of the blessing I have received...
I feel I must say a little of the blessing I have received by coming to Christian Science. I was alone in this town of six thousand inhabitants and had much to meet in many ways. In the spring of 1901 I went to Boston and went through a class. I did not think I was quick to grasp the thought, but my teacher said to me, "It will come with close application," and I have been reaping the reward ever since.
I have since found one student, a member of a local Christian Science Church, another whose parents were Christian Scientists, and one other a seeker for Truth, and they meet at my house every Sunday at half past ten and we go over the lessons together. We feel that God has truly set a table in the wilderness.
I have had many good demonstrations in helping the needy, and I would like to give an outline of one. A relative, very antagonistic to Christian Science, who lives about seventy miles from here, graduated in June last, and they claimed she had so overtaxed herself that she had nervous prostration with heart and brain trouble. She had a fainting spell one morning and lay until six o'clock the next morning in an apparently almost lifeless condition. She had medical help, and everything was done that could be in the material way. I received a telegram to come at once, and I found the house darkened and gloom all around, and she did not notice anything. I asked to be left alone with her, and in a short time she looked up and said, "Are you here?" I said, "Yes; and so is God here, and you are well." She sat up, and but for the fear held over her would have gotten up at once. The next morning she was at breakfast and went up town. Meeting her doctor, he said, "What cured you? I am much surprised to see you well." She said. "Christian Science has cured me." The doctor said, "I do not care, so you are cured: but I looked for you to lie in bed three weeks, if you ever got up." Now that whole family is reading Christian Science.
