Our first Thanksgiving service in the Christian Science Church...

Our first Thanksgiving service in the Christian Science Church awakened in me a sense of thankfulness that had never been aroused until I took up the study of the Thanksgiving Lesson.

Now I begin to realize a little of how much the teachings of Christian Science have been doing for me, and I am aware that I owe a debt of gratitude that words cannot express. When I remember the condition that I was in when I first learned of Christian Science, and realize what a change has come into my life, I feel that the least I can do is to give to the Field some of these experiences.

I was a worldly man with all the worldly man's habits, and was suffering with many of the worldly man's complaints. My wife had just been healed of what the doctors said was an incurable disease, and through her demonstration I was healed of an inherited thirst for liquor, even before I would acknowledge that I believed in Christian Science. Very soon after I began to read Science and Health and work for myself, I was able to overcome the tobacco habit that was formed when I was but a small child, just able to reach the tobacco box and light the pipes for my father, mother, and grandmother.
