True Success not Material
Christian Scientists, all over the world, assert daily that "there is no life, truth, intelligence, or substance in matter" (Science and Health, p. 468). The declaration of this truth is proclaimed publicly in every Church of Christ, Scientist, at the close of its Sunday services. It is the recognized duty and privilege of Christian Scientists to demonstrate the Scientific Statement of Being as given in their text-book, and to exemplify it by concrete results in their every-day life, results so practical and so plain that all with whom they come in contact, or who are within the radius of their influence, shall be benefited, and the world thereby raised to a higher and still higher plane of spirituality, which is goodness.
"Nothing we can say or believe regarding matter is immortal, for matter is temporal, and is therefore a mortal phenomenon, sometimes beautiful, always transitory" (Science and Health, p. 277).
The query comes, however, time and again, what is my consciousness of Truth when in business, in society, or at home? Am I using material means, that success in business, good in society, or happiness in the home. may abound? Am I harboring a belief of power in some material apparatus, environment, or condition, as the cause of success? If so, then am I the servant of that belief, and mastery can come only as matter loses its identity to human sense.
