The Absoluteness of Science

Portsmouth (N. H.) Herald

Christian Science is absolute: it teaches that Jesus, the first great demonstrator of Christian Science, knew the absolute principle of scientific being, and through this understanding he overcame all forms of error, sin, disease, and death. His promise to his followers, throughout all time, was, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also;" so by reflecting Truth we overcome sickness, sin, and discord of every kind. Christian Scientists know they are approaching the time when they will realize more completely the fulfilment of his promise.

Christian Science teaches that sin should not be indulged, but must be uncovered and destroyed, to be overcome. It is very important that this should be understood, for many believe that, because Christian Science teaches that God does not recognize evil, it must follow as a consequence that Christian Scientists ignore evil. But Christian Science teaches that sin is a false concept of mortal mind, and that the consciousness of sin does not exist in the divine Mind. The destruction of evil is made more certain when we know that it cannot abide in reality. It is but the inversion of Truth. God is not the author of evil. James said, "Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God : for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth He any man." By knowing that sin is unreal, the pleasures of sin also lose their reality, and in the degree that Christian Scientists understand this great truth, evil desires are destroyed and supplanted by pure and loving thoughts.

Christian Science is scientific, it is not a system of human opinions. It does not rest on any personality, but on a fixed, eternal Principle.
