One Love

Unity is the essential of harmony. There is one Mind, one Truth, one Life, one Love. The claim of so called mortal mind is one of separation. Truth is subdivided and set forth by mortal methods as truths. Life is separated into lives, while Mind is resolved into minds many. Love also is divided, sub-divided, and classified, but such division will not bear the light of Christian Science. The loves, so-called, of mortal mind, what are they? The love of place and power; the love of riches; the love of display, and the love of family, the exclusive love of one's own kindred. And are these love, that reflection of infinite Love which our Leader teaches us is impartial, impersonal, universal, and pure?

We hear much of partial love, of ambitious affection, of personal devotion, of exclusive friendship, of idolatrous attachment; but these are not Love. There is but one Love, and its reflection is selfless and humble. It knows no limitation either of wealth or poverty. The king reflects Love and his people rejoice, the whole nation shouting, "Long live the King." The peasant in the lowliest cot gathers beneath his roof the shelterless orphans; and Love sustains him, multiplies his store, transforms his crust into bread, and warms his hearth.

"Infinite Love is reflected in love" (Science and Health, p. 17). Let us learn to recognize this reflection in its every-day dress. The cheery "good morning" that gladdens the household for the day, is love's expression. Love blossoms in gentle courtesies and thoughtful consideration for the feelings of others; in the bright smile, the cheery tone. Love speaks in gladness, in every impulse humane and compassionate, and in the cheerful performance of every duty, Love hallows all work.
