A religious contemporary has recently said that the scholars of the world are rapidly giving up their faith in miracles; but they are doing nothing to lessen the appetite for miracles, which is now eager and clamorous."

Those who argue for the decadence of religious faith would find apparent proof of their proposition in the astonishing fact that professed followers of Jesus venture to deny the possibility, and hence the lawfulness, of the spiritual works which attended his ministry, and which he declared should ever attend the ministry of those who believed on him; and for the doing of which he gave specific command.

The denial of their possibility in the past is, however, the logical sequence of the denial of their possibility to-day, and we must recognize the consistency of those who make the complete denial, as compared with those who assert the genuineness of the New Testament miracles, but who deny that these spiritual works may be repeated.
