The preservation of President Roosevelt from serious injury upon the occasion of the startling accident at Pittsfield, Mass., September 3, has awakened a grateful sense in all hearts. His exhibition of deep feeling over the death of his faithful guard, whom he referred to as his friend, does credit to a nobility and kindness of nature which commands immediate recognition.
