A question was raised in a recent Wednesday evening...
A question was raised in a recent Wednesday evening meeting at First Church of Christ, Scientist, Toronto, by a gentleman who stated that he was not a Christian Scientist. He said, "You people appear to have something which I have not. I don't know, but I would like to understand, what it is. For forty years I have known one man who is here to-night. He has always been strong and healthy, and I do not know what he obtains from Christian Science, yet he is very enthusiastic in its favor. What is the difference between us? I believe in being honest and upright, and in paying one hundred cents on the dollar, but I do not enjoy very good health. How can Christian Science benefit me morally as well as physically? I know by the hearty handshake I receive in this church, and your happy expressions, that you have something which I have not."
The Christian Scientist to whom reference had been made arose and said in reply that he had received a great deal from Christian Science, and also could refer to many cases of wonderful healing. For years his family had been kept well by Christian Science, and through the same means he had been enabled to overcome to a great extent his own impulsive nature.
Another speaker said, "Our friend has met with us to hear our testimonies as to the great blessings resulting from Christian Science, and we have many good things to share with him. The difference between Christian Scientists and those who are not. is that the latter believe matter to be substance, while the Christian Scientist believes Spirit to be the only real substance."
