Extracts from Letters
Dear Friend:—Gladly do I send you the desired information in regard to what brought me out of darkness into a little understanding of what our God is to us His children, as in Him we live, move, and have our being.
Eight years ago this month I was afflicted with insanity and was put into one of the state institutions. After 3 time I was taken from there and put in a private hospital for the insane. There were sixteen doctors, I think, with whom I came in contact, and the thought which they gave out was that I should grow worse. As a last effort to save me, Christian Science was tried and I was healed of the mental trouble. It was wonderful to think that I was a well man and could have my freedom. I said I would learn, if I could, what Christian Science was, and many, many times have I proved our loving Father-Mother God to be a very present help in trouble. Sciatic rheumatism, dyspepsia, chronic constipation, headaches, colds, pneumonia, blood poison, the tobacco habit, also the use of liquor and a bad disposition, domestic trouble, and business disaster, all of these evils have been fought and overcome with Christian Science, and yet I have very much to learn in Science. Do not think because you cannot understand how God can help us when we are willing to obey the first commandment, that He will not keep His promise.
I would gladly tell you more of how the fears have been destroyed, and how I try to know that God is light and in Him is no darkness or shadow of turning, and I am only one of an army who are fighting for the freedom which Christian Science gives.
