A Practical Christianity

Dayton (O.) Herald

The world longs for a more practical Christianity, longs for a clearer conception of God, longs for a better understanding of the Bible; it has for ages been praying for "unity of faith," that we might all be of "one Mind and one accord," having the same Mind that was manifest in Christ Jesus, that we might be a unit in regard to God and the plan of Salvation. In fact, the honest, earnest seekers for Truth have been longing, yea, praying for, the Science of Christianity, a Science that will unfold to us and make practical in our lives the omnipotence of God, Good—the power of divine Love—and give to mankind a "Key" to unlock the Scriptures, unfolding their great spiritual truths, that will again bring heaven to earth, witnessed as in the days of the earthly pilgrimage of our Master—the sick restored to health through the gospel, the lame made to walk, the deaf to hear, the blind to see, those dead in sin and trespasses quickened and reformed, and thus thereafter leading an upright life.

To-day many thousands believe they have found this very Truth, this Science of Christianity; and associated therewith the name of Rev. Mary Baker G. Eddy, will go down in history as its Discoverer and Founder. We here with append some testimonials showing the practicability of Christian Science, given at a Wednesday evening meeting of First Church of Christ, Scientist, this city:—

A traveling man's experience: "I have been a traveling man for fifteen years. Prior to hearing of Christian Science, my home was almost like a hospital, but now we are well and happy. I desire to speak of the benefits of Christian Science in a business way. My territory includes most of the large cities west of Pittsburg to the Missouri River. There were many cities where I sold goods and in many cities I failed to sell. I ceased calling on many business firms, as I considered them 'cranks.' After getting some idea of Christian Science, business assumed a different aspect. One day I was in the city where a man was engaged in business whom I had for a long time considered a 'crank,' and refrained from visiting. I said, 'I believe I will call on that "crank" again.' Then the thought immediately came to me: 'No he is no "crank," he is a son of God.' On my way to his place of business I endeavored to realize the brotherhood of mankind. When I arrived there, I found him quite different. He was very pleasant, and suffice it to say, I sold him a nice bill of goods. I have continued this course, and since doing so, working from an unselfish standpoint, my sales have wonderfully increased. The company expressed its approval of increased business by increase of salary without my asking for it, whereas, before, I not only had to ask for a raise, but had to fight for it."
