Christian Science has done so much for me and for my...

Christian Science has done so much for me and for my family that I should be an ingrate if I did not testify to benefits received. Five years ago, I had no faith in any religion, and my physical and moral condition was such that I was nothing less than a pronounced wreck. I was addicted to the use of liquor; I used tobacco excessively in smoking and chewing; I used morphine for the relief of pain and to try to overcome insomnia which was occasioned by my bad habits; I suffered at times from dyspepsia in its most aggravated from; I had kidney trouble which baffled the doctors' skill, and during the months of August, September, October, and November of each year, for more than eight years previous, I had experienced all the pangs of suffering which hay fever and asthma bring to the victim of those ailments. My habits had made the use of glasses necessary, and I could read nothing without them. The changing conditions of my physical nature, made it necessary to keep changing the strength of the lenses which I was using, and I had several pairs of glasses in my daily work. I had a terrible temper to go with all other faults, and gave vent to said temper very often in profanity of no very mild character.

Three years ago, increased trouble from kidney disease made me miserable, and brought me down in strength to the point at which I felt that something must be done, or I should surely die. Knowing that I was not in condition for the change from life to such a state as I felt sure awaited me, and finding that the doctors were agreed that there was no hope in materia medica for me, my wife decided that I should try Christian Science as a last resort. She had no faith in it, but had heard that it had done wonders for an acquaintance of ours. I had tried Christian Science in two instances previous to 1897, and had received help, but as I wanted nothing but the physical healing, and did not believe in the religion, I had forgotten that Christian Science had benefited me in the past, until my wife insisted that I should go and try it for the ailment which physicians had named Bright's disease in serious form.

I took some twenty treatments in Chicago with benefit, and then coming to Omaha to reside, soon after began taking treatment here. It would do no good to try to narrate the various conditions through which I passed, but I am happy to testify that I have not only been relieved of all my bad habits and ailments as stated before, but I have found a religion in which my wife and myself can feel satisfied, and which we are trying to incorporate into our daily lives to such an extent that we may feel that we are dwelling in the secret place of the Almighty. Such happiness as has come to us from Christian Science cannot be explained in words. Persistent and daily study of the text-book, Science and Health, is bringing understanding and we feel that we are at last grounded upon the rock that is the only safe foundation. Harmony has taken the place of discord, Truth has taken the place of error, and sunshine has driven the clouds of mortal sense away. My wife has overcome neuralgia of the stomach, and the use of glasses which she had worn for twenty years. We are rejoicing in the healings from sin and sickness which we know have been brought about through Christian Science and nothing else.
