Is Christian Science Humane?
Dayton (O.) Herald
Strange as it may seem, there has always been opposition to Christian healing, whereas people would naturally think to Christian healing, people would naturally think it would be a welcome visitor, an angel guest. Jesus was constantly persecuted, and finally nailed to the cross. because of Paul's preaching, accompanied by Christian healing; John was put in the boiling oil, many were torn to pieces by wild beasts, and others burned at the stake, and this was because they advocated a religion that not only reformed the sinner but healed the sick.
In our "land of the free," one would declare this could not be, yet on the contrary, within the past few years we find bills have been introduced in the different legislatures which, if enacted and enforced, would prevent the sick from being healed except by the licensed physicians, thus ruling out Christ's method and substituting man's.
To be humane is to be kind. The teachings of Jesus are the most humane ever given to the world, and if practised will bring the greatest blessings to mankind. This is the rock upon which Christian Science is founded. It stands for good government and sound morals; it is opposed to everything that would "torture, torment, cruelly or unlawfully punish" individuals, or deprive them of "necessary food, clothing, or shelter." Its medicine is the divine Mind, or spiritual means, such as Jesus practised and taught his followers, and it has proved in thousands of instances superior to material remedies. Hear what parents have to say, and then judge for yourself whether it can justly be called "inhumane." These parents are willing to make affidavit to the testimonies appended, and their names can be secured at any time.
