Climbing the Mountain

In the summer of 1900 I one of a party to make the ascent of Mt. Hood. There was much in that experience to remind me of our work in gaining an understanding of Christian Science.

First of all it was necessary for us to have a guide, one in whom we had confidence. We did not try to go in a path of our own finding, but knew that if we would reach the top of the mountain, we must follow in the path of our guide. In that path was safety, but if we wandered and tried to climb our own way, we were in danger of being lost.

We were required to keep in line, and the poorest climbers were told that the closer they kept to the guide, the more easily they would make the ascent.
