Will Preach as he Believes

While condemning John Alexander Dowie and his organization, J. C. Beitel, a licentiate, recently convinced the Chicago Presbytery that belief in prayer as a healing power is not in contravention of the tenets of Presbyterianism.

The young man had been brought to trial on charges preferred in the Arkansas Valley District. He had been ousted by the Missionary Committee and had taken an appeal to the Presbytery.

The committee, in its answer to Mr. Beitel, had assigned as one of the arguments that militated against him the fact that he was in sympathy with the teachings of Dowie and a believer in Christian Science.
