Christian Science Reading Rooms
Dayton (O.) Herald
With the establishment of reading rooms, a new department has been instituted in church work. To-day in almost every city, as an annex to the church, free reading rooms are open to the public; many of them are handsomely furnished. Here the weary and heavy laden, who have not found rest through the use of material remedies, may come and investigate Christian Science, having access to the works of its Discoverer and Founder, and the publications of The Christian Science Publishing Society, in Boston, Mass. Here inquiries may be made in regard to this Science and Christian Science literature is always on sale.
The Christian Scientists not only have their Sunday services and mid-week meetings, but the reading rooms afford opportunity of doing God's work every day in the week, healing the sick, comforting the sorrowing, reforming the sinner. To the wanderers athirst for a knowledge of God, these reading rooms are as the shelter of a great rock, and like the refreshing shower. This work is only in its infancy, yet the good already accomplished proves the wisdom of our Leader, who established them as a means of bringing blessings to mankind.
In the larger cities it is a common thing to hear of the successful business man, turning away from the cares of the world, seeking the reading room where he may talk of that which relates to God, and thus be about his Father's business in Christian work. The help received in this retreat, gives him strength and courage to conduct his business on a Christian basis.
