Spiritual Understanding Necessary

In John, eighth chapter, twenty-eighth to the fortieth verse, we see that spiritual understanding is indispensable to spiritual growth. It says, "Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things."

When consciousness is lifted up through spiritual discernment, then shall we understand man's spiritual origin, that he is inseparable from his divine Principle, Father-Mother God, and be spiritually qualified to demonstrate that Principle in works, as Jesus did.

The thirtieth verse says, "Many believed on him." The self-satisfaction of mortal mind argues from its own limited and ignorant views only. Jesus detected this lack and said, practically, believing is not sufficient, "if ye continue ["to be steadfast or constant in any course" Webster] in my word, then ye are my disciples, indeed."
