Many Reasons for Gratitude

Six years ago I sought Christian Science for physical healing, in the same manner that I should have consulted a physician. I was healed of a chronic disease in four treatments, and as the Scientist who treated me displayed great wisdom in showing me her faith by her works, instead of attempting to interest me in the cause of my cure before I could see that I was well, I found myself free from the disease, and in a state of wonderment that increased as time went on.

I was a member of the Episcopal Church and considered myself quite zealous. The music always seemed to inspire me, while in the church at least; the ritual appealed to my aesthetic sense, and frequently the sermon caused me to make good resolves. I seldom missed a service and had no desire to change my religious views or habits.

The subject of Christian Science was, I thought, far from being of interest to me, and yet I was surprised to find myself every week at the home of the Scientist through whom I was healed. She very kindly opened her house, on a certain day, to those among her acquaintances who were interested in reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," as well as other writings of Mrs. Eddy, and who seemed to find help in considering the subjects presented. From her I had borrowed a few Journals and some of the smaller books on the subject of Christian Science, but the text-book, Science and Health, I could not read with any understanding whatever.
