Restored to Perfect Health
In December, 1900, our janitor lost his little daughter by diphtheria. His son and the mother also had the disease, and the latter very nearly lost her life. When the mother began to improve it was found that she was paralyzed; even her throat was so affected that she could not talk. Various physicians were employed. Although she rallied somewhat, regaining the power of speech and the use of her hands and arms, there came a time when they could do no more for her. Her lower limbs remained useless, she could not walk a step, and, with a sense of discouragement, all treatment was dropped.
In this extremity a Scientist suggested to the husband that Christian Science be given a trial. He replied that he had no more money to spend for treatment of any kind. The Scientist remarked that many people were healed by simply reading the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and that if his wife would promise to read the work carefully, she would gladly loan her a copy.
A day two later the promise was given and the book sent upon its mission. At the end of a week from that time inquiry was made regarding the woman's condition. "About the same," was the reply. The Scientist then offered to visit the invalid and answer as best she could any questions that might have been suggested by what she had read.
