Testimonies given at First Church of Christ, Scientist, Dayton, O.

Dayton Herald

The leader of the meeting said in part:—

"It affords me great pleasure to speak of a case of healing of one who is with us this evening. A Christian Scientist has no desire to bring in his own personality, realizing that it is the impersonal Truth that does the work. It is one case among many thousands in its wonderful nature, and yet I am glad to say that it is one of three almost similar cases I have had in my practice in the last seven years. While the case I wish to speak of is not as the one that was born blind as we have had in this evening's lesson, yet I am pleased to say for the Truth's sake that this lady has had her sight restoryed after twelve years' total blindness. She is acquainted with some of the members of this church who will greatly rejoice to learn the good news, this being the first time it has been made public. After the oculist pronounced the optic nerve dead, twelve years ago, there existed no hope, her family and friends looking upon her as hopelessly blind, never expecting that she would see again, so when the change came it was almost impossible for them to comprehend that such a thing could be done.

"From the reports of the testimonial meetings now held in all the larger cities and in many of the smaller towns, Christian Science is teeming with unparralleled success, pointing to over a million cases which have been healed. The masses seem unable to comprehend how this can be possible. When we think of the great number who have been healed we are forcibly reminded of what the disciples said to Jesus and his reply, as given in the tenth chapter of Luke's gospel, 'And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. ... And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see: for I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.' In giving his charge to seventy disciples Jesus told them of the things with which they would have to contend, and as they journeyed from city to city healing the sick, he said they should say unto them, "The Kingdom of God is come nigh unto you,' and in such places as they refused to accept the Truth he reiterated the same teaching, 'notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the Kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.'"
