Healed after Material Means had Failed

It was in the year 1899 that I first heard of Christian Science. For ten years before that I can say I nearly lived on drugs. being almost continually under the care of some physician. I had been through one operation, and then took local treatments twice a week for nearly two years. I also used an electric battery and took patent medicines of all kinds. Notwithstanding all my efforts to find health, I grew gradually worse until in October, 1898. I became too ill and weak to stand and had to remain in bed.

For six months I lay there, being attended constantly by our home physician. Four other physicians were called at different times for consultation, and all of them decided that the only thing they could see that was left for me to do was to go through a severe operation as soon as I could get the strength to endure it.

With all this I had severe bowel and stomach trouble with extreme nervousness. About the only thing I could eat was a small piece of toast and about one tablespoon of cream each day, and even this would distress me.
