What Christian Science did for Me

On the eighth of April, 1895, I was in a condition bordering almost upon despair. I had tried many doctors and many remedies, including baths, electricity, and numerous other things, and still, like the woman in the Bible "was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse." Naturally I had lost faith in all material remedies, and the outlook was dark. I had no friend who was able to care for me, but on the contrary they needed me. Especially was this the case with my mother. I dared not look to the future, but tried to trust Him whom I was trying to serve, and feel that all was well; having at the same time, however, a consciousness that I did not receive all the help and strength from my religion that I ought.

At this time the dear Lord himself, without my seeking it, or might I rather say, in answer to my prayer for help, sent to me one of his disciples who believed that the power Jesus the Christ conferred upon his fellowers to do the works that he did, was not confined to those who believed in him when he walked the earth, but that it belonged to all who believe.

At that time I had so little faith that anything could heal me, that I refused to see her, but this thought was overruled, and in twenty minutes' conversation with her, I began to feel a new life unfolding itself to my consciousness.
