Christian Science Testimonial Meeting

Minneapolis Sunday Times

The testimonial meeting of the Christian Science Church is an innovation. A visit to First Church of Christ, Scientist, in this city, located on Fifteenth Street between Park and Portland Avenues, last Wednesday evening, fully confirmed this conclusion. Several hundred bright, intelligent, and interested persons, from all walks and professions of life, composed the assembly. The First Reader stated that the public services of the Christian Science Churches were held in order that the Principle, the methods, and the practical results of Christian Science may be made known. She said that the practical results belong especially to the Wednesday evening meeting, when those who know of such instances may tell how the sick have been healed, the sinner reformed, the sorrowing comforted, and how the cares, anxieties, and burdens of daily life have been lifted and the pure sense of spirituality has been exalted through the ministrations of Christian Scientists, showing that its broad claims to efficacy and power rest upon proof rather than profession. The testimonials were remarkable, being accounts of the healing of almost every phase of disease common to mankind. Each one who spoke did so with manifest freedom and confidence, and with much earnestness.

A young lady related the strange healing of a case of dyspepsia through merely listening to testimonies given at one of these meetings, which the patient had entered while in an indifferent attitude of thought.

Another spoke of an invalid wife who had been restored to health, and the marked release from despondency and discouragement which the members of the family experienced as a consequence of studying this Truth. The next speaker cited an instance of the healing of an internal tumor. The patient was suffering from intense fear when she first called on a healer, but the audible assurance from the latter that "Divine Love always has met, and always will meet, every human need" (a quotation from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker G. Eddy), calmed the fear, and a few treatments resulted in complete restoration to health.
