Study of the Bible

Boston Herald

Rear-Admiral John W. Philip, who commanded the Texas in the war with Spain, delivered an interesting address Saturday afternoon, November II, I899, before the Young Men's Christian Association of the Naval Academy, at the Academy Chapel, and most of the officers and members of their families, with whom Admiral Philip is popular. Admiral Philip said:—

I heartily congratulate the young gentlemen who are members of the Naval Academy Association for being enrolled as associate members of the Young Men's Christian Association, which numbers upward of two hundred and seventy thousand members in the United States and Canada. When I was a midshipman of the Academy the Young Men's Christian Association had not been thought of here. As you know, it was first organized in London, in I844, and Boston and Montreal about the year I85I.

The conditions that exist generally throughout the country in regard to the influence of temperance and religion in all the important avenues of life are among the blessings that God had in store for our country.
