Where fidelity leads us

The sun edged above the jagged mountains. The crisp morning air carried the sound of a broken twig. With a curious eye the doe skirted our camp. Her twin fawns followed closely. They seemed instinctively to know that by remaining faithfully at her side, they would find a measure of safety.

There was a lesson here to me. Can't each of us feel a very special kind of quiet assurance and certain security when we are faithful? Fidelity to divine Love is a beautiful and essential quality. It is a step leading toward reality. If we learn the lessons of fidelity in our human experience, we will grow into an understanding that the man of God's creating is even more than faithful. He is eternally and securely at one with God. But this perpetual truth can be realized only as indispensable preliminary steps are taken. We cannot expect to grasp the reality of man's perfect and inseparable relationship to God if we have not proved the simpler lessons of faithfulness in daily life.

Describing our steps toward the kingdom of heaven, Christ Jesus spoke symbolically of the need to take advantage of even small opportunities in order to be blessed in larger ways. Such devotion earns the tribute, "Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord." Matt. 25:23;
