A few years ago I was put to the test to prove my understanding of God when I was confronted with an illness that almost immobilized me. When, through my own prayer, there was little improvement, I sought the help of a Christian Science practitioner. Prayerful treatment was begun at once. The healing of arthritis did not come quickly, but during the period that followed not one moment of pain was experienced. Having witnessed many healings in our home, as well as elsewhere, through the application of scientific prayer, I did not waver in my thought. Gradually I began to regain the use of my hands, and the ability to rise from a chair unaided and walk without assistance. My gratitude to God was unbounded.
The most tenacious error was the fear of financial lack. This too was finally turned into a victory. One day, while I was reading the familiar Bible account of the prodigal son, I noted anew the father's reply to the envious elder brother (Luke 15:31): "Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine." In that reply I saw more clearly than ever that as God's child I could never be out of reach of His largess. From that point on this fact has been demonstrated in my life.
Many blessings have come to my family and me since I began, many years ago, to study Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy together with the Bible. These two books have brought progress, happiness, and a higher sense of living. Much joy has been mine also as I have accepted the many opportunities to serve the Cause of Christian Science.
