Will You Accept Healing?

What if someone living in an isolated house in a lonely wood felt imprisoned in the house because he heard sounds of what he believed to be dangerous animals coming from the wood? Then one day he learned that there were no animals in the wood. Wouldn't he realize at once that he had been imprisoned only by a false belief and immediately be free?

A young student of Christian Science pondered the words of Christ Jesus, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:32; He had turned to Christian Science when suffering from a serious physical disease, and he was receiving help from a Christian Science practitioner. His health had considerably improved, but he was not fully recovered. Upon reading the words of Jesus he began to wonder what actually happens when truth, which is entirely spiritual, heals physical disease and brings freedom to human experience.

He saw the similarity of his own position with that of the imaginary person imprisoned in the house. He, too, was imprisoned, or restricted, by the false belief that he lived in a discordant material body. Although he had partially recovered, the "sounds," or symptoms, were still present with their implications of danger. He saw that the individual in the analogy was free as soon as he accepted the truth of the situation.
