NO ADAM-DREAM FOR ME
I'm alone
And I'm lonely
I pray
I stay my thought on God and His ever-presence
Still
Voices of silence are shrill
Then I read and remember what Adam heard in
that Adam-dream
"It is not good that the man should be alone"
So that's what I've been enacting
That's the Adam story
But it isn't mine
Why, I long ago knew the mist, the rib, the dust,
as a lie
And now the loneliness, too—
The dream refuted
I do an about-face
And see myself secure
In God's embrace
