Our Relationship to Spirit

Those who rely on scientific prayer for healing are depending on the spiritual rather than on the material. They have glimpsed man's relationship to God, to Spirit. To the degree that they understand this relationship they enjoy God-given harmony and dominion.

God, divine Mind, never gave any life or intelligence to matter. Christ Jesus said, "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." John 4:24; The belief of life and intelligence in matter persists only because we allow it to obscure, in our thought, the one realm of reality, the realm of Spirit. Mrs. Eddy writes, "The signs of these times portend a long and strong determination of mankind to cleave to the world, the flesh, and evil, causing great obscuration of Spirit." Miscellaneous Writings, p. 2;

Speculating about matter, fearing or loving it, ties us to the world. Any evidence of material discord is a reminder that we need to let Spirit form spiritual concepts in our thought. The spiritual shows the material to be an illusion. A mortal is not the truth of man; a mortal represents the lie of material existence. Man is a spiritual formation, constituted of spiritual ideas and qualities. He exists as the image of divine Mind. We can perceive this true man when we overcome the material and allow the light of Truth to bring realities into focus.
