Finding my place in the business world through the application...

Finding my place in the business world through the application of Christian Science has proved to be a continuing blessing. During this experience several lessons had to be learned.

The first lesson was to replace human will with God's will. After completing my education, which included training as a bilingual secretary, I thought I knew just what I wanted to do. I worked at one job for a few months and with another company for about a year with the purpose of using this training; but neither of these positions proved to be satisfying or remunerative. In desperation I finally turned wholeheartedly to God as I had been thought in the Christian Science Sunday School. I read in (Rom. 12:2), "Be not conformed to world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." I began to feel more at peace as I listened to what God was telling me.

The next lesson was replacing pride with humility. One morning at breakfast with my family I was reading aloud the newspaper ads. I called attention to a position I was qualified for; but then in a haughty manner I proceeded to speak derogatorily about the retail firm that had the opening, although I knew nothing about the company. This brought a rebuke from a member of the family. During the day this in my thought. I did some studying in a nearby Christian Science Reading Room and found many thought-provoking passages. In Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I read (p. 8), "Praying for humility with whatever fervency of expression does not always mean a desire for it." I examined my thoughts which leaned toward a more glamorous and exciting career, but then I saw I had to put down the human will and stop outlining what field I should enter. I began to listen to discern the will of God. I found myself completely reversing my direction. I sought employment with the very firm I had been belittling that morning. Until that moment I had not even considered the retail business as a place for me.
