It is with much gratitude for Christian Science and all the wonderful things that have taken place in my life as a result of this healing truth that I write this testimony.
Over forty years ago I had to quit high school and was confined to bed with what was diagnosed as tuberculosis of one lung, which caused frequent hemorrhaging. I was in such a weakened condition that the end seemed near. My mother was looking through a large book on the subject of health that had various remedies mentioned in it. On one page Christian Science was listed as a remedy, a quotation and author's name was given. The quotation came from the textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, and is found on page 15, lines 14—24. Part of this quotation is: "In order to pray aright, we must enter into the closet and shut the door. We must close the lips and silence the material senses. In the quiet sanctuary of earnest longings, we must deny sin and plead God's allness."
My mother had heard of Christian Science years before, but until now had never seriously thought of trying it. She contacted a Christian Science Reading Room and found that practitioners are listed in The Christian Science Journal, who will help when called upon to do so. I wrote to one and shall be forever grateful to this devoted student. The practitioner asked me to work constantly with the answer to the question "What is man?" as found on page 475 of the textbook. The first paragraph begins: "Man is not matter; he is not made up of brain, blood, bones, and other material elements. The Scriptures inform us that man is made in the image and likeness of God. Matter is not that likeness." I was healed of the lung condition and returned to high school, where I rode horseback in sub-zero weather, took extra subjects, and went on to graduate with my class. While I was being treated by the practitioner for the lung condition, healings of chronic constipation and weak eyes took place.
