Putting God First

The lines were long, the tempers short. It was late afternoon on a hot, fall day, the final registration day at the college where I was to obtain a bachelor's degree in a second field. For the third time I was trying to arrange my classes so that my weekly schedule could include all the Christian Science activities available to me.

As I stood in line, I recalled with great gratitude the four years of undergraduate studies I had completed. They were rich, rewarding years—academically and spiritually. They had left me with a deep desire to put God first in my life. Joshua's command to the Israelites had become my command, too: "Choose you this day whom ye will serve." Josh. 24:15; One way I had chosen to serve God—divine Truth, Life and Love—was by taking an active part in the Christian Science movement.

There were two conflicts in my schedule of classes. One would prevent my attending the Wednesday evening testimony meetings at a nearby Christian Science branch church. The other would keep me from the regular Christian Science college organization meetings.
