It was the turning point in my life when my husband and I went to work for a Christian Scientist, though we did not at first know that she was a Scientist.

We were having material troubles. One day our employer gave us a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and said, "If you will read this book, you will be much happier." My husband would not touch it. I read it as often as I had the opportunity, and began to study the Christian Quarterly Bible Lessons. I tried to put into practice what I understood. When unpleasant situations arose, as they often did, I prayed to be more patient, gentle, and loving, to see the man of God's creating, and to live this proverb (Prov. 15:1): A soft answer turneth away wrath."

Among my problems was a goiter I had had since childhood. It was quite large, and I usually wore a high-necked dress or a scarf. At times it caused me much distress. One day my husband said, "What has happened to you?" The goiter had disappeared. From that time my husband was a different man. He knew that Christian Science had healed me.
