It was early evening as Mercedes and Barbie walked home across the vacant lot, just talking. The remaining light in the western sky was reflected in the thousands of pieces of broken glass and other debris that covered the ground.
"I remember when there was a building right here," Mercedes remarked.
"Me, too," said Barbie.
