I have known Christian Science since early childhood, and have had physical healings, guidance, comfort, and many other blessings from its teachings.

During the four years I served in the Women's Armed Services during the Second World War, I had many opportunities for demonstrating the power of Christian Science in my daily affairs. On one occasion when I was not well and had to comply with Army regulations, I was taken to the camp sick bay. I could not sit or stand, and had to be carried there on a stretcher. I had asked for metaphysical treatment from a Christian Science practitioner, but the condition, which was named lumbago, persisted.

Finally the medical officer attending me said I should have to go into hospital for treatment. This at once roused me mentally to acknowledge God as the only lawgiver, and that as His spiritual idea I could only obey His laws. I earnestly prayed, "Thy will be done" (Christ Jesus' words in the Lord's Prayer, Matt. 6:10), and trustingly held to the unfailing power of God's goodness.
