Where to Look for Happiness

If happiness always seems to elude us, or to be a thing of short duration, fleeing just when we think it is assured, perhaps there is the need to examine our attitudes, motives, and desires to see whether they originate in God, good, and where they are leading us. Christian Science teaches that if we strive to please God first, true satisfaction is a natural result.

Are we looking to a special person, instead of God, to give us happiness? Do we depend on material possessions, important positions, or certain localities for a sense of security and stability? Friends or loved ones can disappoint; material riches can be lost overnight; prominent positions often end abruptly, leaving one without a status symbol.

In the study and practice of Christian Science, the emptiness of a material basis for thinking is uncovered and better living is found to have a spiritual basis. Knowing that man is the perfect expression of God, Spirit, one naturally expresses harmony humanly.
